2026 BENNETT SPRING NOTES
Three zones.

Bennett Spring is not a place to decide on bait after you reach the water. The spring branch is divided into three regulated zones, and the legal presentation changes from one zone to the next. That makes a zone-first plan more useful than a generic trout tackle list.
Flies + artificial lures
Zone 2 runs from the Hatchery Dam downstream to Whistle Bridge. Flies and artificial lures are permitted, giving spinning anglers a clear place to start.
Soft plastic, natural + scented bait
Zone 3 runs from Whistle Bridge downstream to the Niangua River. MDC says flies and artificial lures are prohibited in this zone.
RIGHT NOW
The regular season is still open.
The 2026 regular trout-park season runs through October 31. Bennett Spring's October fishing hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. A fishing permit and daily trout tag are required unless an exemption applies.
The next catch-and-release season begins November 13, 2026 and runs through February 8, 2027 on Fridays through Mondays, 8 a.m.–4 p.m. During that season, fishing is catch-and-release and flies only.
2026 HATCHERY WORK
Plan around the renovation.
MDC's 2026 prospect report says the hatchery complex is unavailable for public use during renovation work, including fish feeding and hatchery tours. That does not close the trout fishery, but it changes the non-fishing part of the trip.
Cast STL trip call: choose your zone before leaving St. Louis, rig for that zone, and treat any hatchery visit as unavailable unless MDC posts a change.

4–6 lb mono/fluoro is a practical general trout starting point.
